There's great advice in this CNN article: To find a job, ignore doom-and-gloom news. Companies are hiring, and you need only ONE job. Focus on your own search, your own skills, and where the jobs ARE.

- Good news: Jobseekers can learn about important differentiators to build confidence and customize/optimize the job search. Examples:
- A targeted, expertly written and SEO’d resume;
- Further expanding one’s online identity;
- Uncovering hidden jobs;
- Thorough interview preparation;
- Research.
- Good news: There are alternatives to full time employment to help bridge the gap for clients who need immediate income, e.g., freelancing, temp or contract work, entrepreneurial ventures with low startup costs (including direct selling), working from home/working remotely, online businesses (including eBay), turning a hobby into a business, e.g., music, art, crafts, woodworking, repair.
